I bought a bunch of supplies for alternative cleaners the other day. vinegar, baking powder, borax, lemon juice. better ingredients than other cleaners that are toxic and harmful to the environment. These can go to make simple concoctions of biodegradable cleaners that get the job done. With these ingredients I am going to experiment with going no poo (as opposed to shampoo). the reason for doing this would be primarily to avoid harmful additives such as SLS one of those millions of suspected carcinogens. i guess i should start watching out for some of them. but really this is a dilemma that everybody has to face and i'm not sure how we're expected to avoid so many things in fear of this elusive but persistent 'cancer.' w/e.
Currently I use nexxus shampoo (never tested on animals) and bed head conditioner, and wash my hair about every other day, conditioning most days. I might need to mess around with the patterns with my new cleaning supplies, and I'm thinking of still using name brands every once and a while. From what i've read simply no poo treatment after three months will leave your hair a little funky so traditional shampooing every once and a while (every six weeks from one source) is in order. here i will track my progress and results.
day one. (july 3)
i discovered that this method easier to use in the shower than the bath. ) :
mixed up the ingredients and everything went well. i now know why some people say they can't handle the vinegar smell. it was pretty overwhelming to me, having it drip down my face and sit on top of my head for a bit. but the rinse got the smell out enough for me. now my hair feels nice and soft.
