Lifespans

Today I happened upon an interesting site that contains data from studies concerned with the lifespan of everyday objects. (LINK) It is supported by the National Institute for Environmental Studies in Japan. Searchable results make for easy use.

I was pleased to find that a bicycle has an estimated lifespan of 14.7 years (Mine has already long surpassed that! I estimate it's a 1989 model Miyata) Rice cookers usually last about 8 years, cell phones 4. An interesting thing is that the results of these surveys allow you to estimate what you may expect from an object, but also allows you to treasure your appliances that are holding up well after there life expectancy even more!
