indiemart

when I was in SF recently I attended something that i would like you to be aware of called the indie-mart.

It is a fantastic event where they have food drinks and independent merchandisers offering a wide variety of fashionable wares. From shirt printing on the spot, to carefully crafted recycled clothing, to fly accessories, and of course all the cuties in the crowd, there wasn't much left to be wanted. The pricing was a bit high for me (as a po' college student, but not as a person who loves supporting local sweatshop free businesses!!) so i didn't get much but i did manage to find this gem of a necklace!

So aside from being a really hip and happening place to shop, it's a great event because it supports local businesses. Now I would need some help understanding the true economics of this, but I believe local markets of any amenity are beneficial in that it fosters a sense of community consumerism and awareness of how we get all the STUFF we have. It comes from the hard work of people around us! And if Indie Mart wasn't doing enough for the livelihood and style of the SF community, they threw in a little something extra. This time at the door they were accepting donations at the door for San Francisco Women Against Rape .

This event definitely left me feeling great and happy about my shopping experience. It was just so fun and good for everyone involved that you'll have to see for yourself. the next one is on april 26th.
